Hi all, havent posted for a while, have been away on holiday (lovely time but weather not too kind!). Anyway, saw my rheummy consultant on tuesday and we discussed my ra still being active and my ast level being up. So she has taken me off leflunomide and has told me to have fortnightly blood tests. the previous day I had been for a filling as was having pain in a tooth. the dentist had a good look and couldnt see anything wrong but re-filled it for me. He said it may be a bit sore for a couple of days. WELL!!! Ihave known pain as we all have in our joints, but the pain of the toothache for the last 2 days has been awful!!!!! Anyway, went back again this morning, and he says I have an abcess on the tooth and has given me antibiotics. Question I have for you all, is it ok to take mx when taking antibiotics and are the ab's (along with copious amounts of painkillers!) going to push to AST level up even more!!??

Do you know the worst thing? I cant even have a cup of tea as the slightest bit of hot liquid just sends the tooth into orbit and me with it!!!

Ho Hum,

Hope you are all well and having some lovely sunshine!!

Hi Heather,

I can really sympathise with the tooth abscess because I am suffering with one at the moment, although the antibiotics seem to be doing the trick.
I have been told by my rheumy nurse not to take mtx or humira whenever I have an infection and taking antibiotics, so perhaps you should check with your nurse?
I don't think antibiotics will affect the liver enzymes at all, so you should be ok there.
Hope the pain settles down for you soon, I know what you mean about the hot liquids sending the tooth into orbit!

Love, Doreen xx

Hiya ...sorry to hear of the trouble.
I had a dentist appt this morning .. and need 3 fillings :O
eek
I made the point of changing my meds with her and asked if MTX or leflunomide is an issue or having RA .
Reply was .. we are only concerned if you are taking steroids ..:(

I am not sure that this is correct .
I was even more concerned when she said "we are only concerned about your mouth" :O

So apparently no worries about infection /depleted immune system etc :O

I am off to research

Hi Heather

Sorry to hear you are suffering with the toothache, I sympathise as I had the same problem a couple of months ago and had two courses of antibiotics. I was told my rheummy nurse to stop the Enbrel but keep taking the Methotrexate. i don't know if that helps at all.

Hope you soon get relief from the pain

Best Wishes
Sue

Sounds hideous...

But the good thing is that wine isn't hot!

Shouldn't be a problem with MTX but ring the rheumy to double check of GP has no clue!
